This is a really cool wine snuggly!

Not only is it decorative, it will keep
wine at the right temperature longer.
It knits up quickly and will make a
good gift item.

KLYNCH DESIGNS Felted Wine Snuggly

YARN:  GODDESS YARNS  - JAY - 70% wool 30% alpaca - approximately  50 grams or half a skein
(87 yards/skein) each rust and dk. purple - total 1 skein or 87 yds
       Mountain Colors hand-painted yarn  - Bearfoot  -  approximately 3- 4 ounces
       color: Indian Corn

       U.S. # 7 knitting needles

BOTTOM: Cast on 6
*K3, turn, K3, turn, K6, turn, slip first stitch, K5.
You will have a slim pie-shaped wedge.
Repeat from * approximately 12 times or until you have a round donut when laid flat.
Bind off 6.  With darning needle and strand of yarn, join first cast on row to bound off row
slip yarn through inside of circle to close the donut hole.  Weave in ends.

BODY:  CO 36, K36, turn, P36
Continue in stockinette stitch until measures approximately 12 inches - or
(using an empty wine bottle to judge height) until piece measures about an inch above
where the neck of the bottle begins.  Change color of chunky yarn from rust to purple
about  six inches from first row.  Bind off.
Stitch sides together, forming a tube.  Stitch bottom to one end of tube.

HANDLE: CO 4.  Knit in garter stitches for about five inches.  Stitch one end of strap to
top edge and bottom end about halfway down.

If you are an experienced knitter, you can pick up and knit between rows of outside edge of bottom,
using circular needles and knitting in the round up the side of the body, bind off all but four stitches
and continue in garter stitch for six inches, bind off and stitch end of handle halfway down the tube
instead of knitting separate pieces.

FINISHING:  Weave in all loose ends.  Place in mesh delicates bag, place in agitating-type washing
machine on lowest water level and hottest water. I suggest using a color catcher laundry sheet in
case dye bleeds. You can put about a tsp of baking soda in the water and about that much of liquid
laundry detergent. This will shrink and felt the yarn.  Stop the machine and remove before the spin
cycle.  You will need to repeat this process 3- 4 times, checking between cycles - snuggly has felted
enough when stitches are no longer visible.
Remove from washer, hand rinse gently in a sink full of warm water. Squeeze out water gently,
without twisting. Roll in absorbant non-linty towel (microfiber towel works best).
To shape, wrap a thin layer of plastic wrap around an empty wine bottle (to cover the labels) and
gently slide the snuggly onto the wine bottle, shaping as you go.  Allow to dry out of direct sunlight
in a dry place in your home.  If you live in a humid climate such as N.C., this process may take
several days.  Gently remove wine bottle after a few days and allow additional drying time.

to launder, wash in cold water, gentle cycle, no spin cycle, repeat drying process as when knitted

Enjoy!
